There is a moment that happens almost every day in New York.
You’re on the subway.
You’re standing in line for coffee.
You’re walking through Central Park.
You’re sitting alone at a restaurant you’ve been wanting to try.
And for just a second, someone catches your eye.
Nothing happens.
You keep walking.
They keep walking.
The moment is over.
Or is it?
We live in the most connected era in history, yet so many people confess they’re lonely.
Not alone.
Lonely.
They’re surrounded by people, flooded with notifications, and still wondering if anyone truly sees them.

Maybe that’s because we’ve become experts at curating our lives instead of living them.
We know how to post.
We’ve forgotten how to introduce ourselves.
We know how to swipe.
We’re less comfortable saying, “Hi.”
Perhaps the greatest luxury today isn’t finding the perfect partner.
Perhaps it’s finding someone who is fully present.
Someone who listens without checking their phone.
Someone who asks a second question because they’re genuinely curious about your answer.
Someone who makes you feel as though, for a little while, you’re the only person in the room.
That kind of connection isn’t old-fashioned.
It’s timeless.

Whether you’re single, dating, divorced, widowed, or happily married, every meaningful relationship begins the same way.
With curiosity.
With kindness.
With presence.
So here’s today’s invitation.
The next time you’re buying coffee, waiting for the train, or walking through your neighborhood…
Look up.
Smile.
Say hello.
Not because you’re hoping to meet “the one.”
But because every great relationship—romantic or otherwise—begins with a simple human connection.
New York can feel like the biggest city in the world.
Sometimes all it takes is one conversation to make it feel like home.
