NEW YORK — After nearly four weeks on strike, nurses across New York hospitals are seeing steps forward in workplace safety and staffing.

At Mount Sinai Hospital and its Morningside and West campuses, negotiations yielded tentative agreements on addressing workplace violence, one of the nurses’ top concerns. Over at Montefiore, nurses reached agreements ensuring break coverage during 12-hour shifts, a change aimed at keeping both caregivers and patients safe.

The union announced the developments Friday morning, calling it the most productive day of negotiations in the 26-day strike. Later Friday, nurses plan to rally at Montefiore Bronx, demonstrating solidarity and highlighting the ongoing fight for fair treatment, safety, and support on the front lines of health care.

The story underscores the essential work nurses do daily and the importance of protecting those who care for the city’s patients.
