The sidewalks become reflective.

Not the one you rush through every morning.

Order something warm.
Stay longer than you normally would.
Read a few chapters of a book.
Watch the city through the window.
There’s something wonderfully cinematic about watching New Yorkers navigate the rain.
Umbrellas become choreography.
Crosswalks become stages.
Everyone seems to be moving to the same rhythm.
When you’re ready, head to a museum.

Read the first page.

And suddenly, you’ve discovered your next favorite author.
As evening approaches, take one final walk.
Not because you have somewhere to be.
Because you don’t.
Look at the reflections in the pavement.
Listen to the sounds of the city.
Notice how different New York feels after a day of rain.
Because the truth is, some of the city’s most beautiful moments happen when our original plans fall apart.
We spend so much time trying to control our schedules that we forget one important truth.
Unexpected days often become unforgettable days.
So, the next time rain appears in the forecast, don’t cancel your plans.
