Giving Friday: Sow a Seed Into the Future

By Jarvus Ricardo Hester

Today is Giving Friday, and we’re asking our community to invest in something larger than a single performance, a single concert, or a single organization.

We’re asking you to invest in the future.

For generations, Harlem has been a birthplace of artistic innovation. It has produced musicians, poets, composers, educators, activists, and visionaries whose influence has shaped culture around the world.

Those legacies didn’t happen by accident.

Someone invested.

Someone taught.

Someone mentored.

Someone believed.

Today, that responsibility belongs to us.

Harlem Collective Opera, Harlem Boys Choir, and Harlem Chamber Orchestra exist to ensure that classical music, music education, and artistic excellence remain accessible to everyone, not just the privileged few.

Through performances, educational programs, artist development, community partnerships, and cultural programming, we’re building pathways for the next generation of artists.

We’re teaching young people to sing.

We’re introducing audiences to the extraordinary contributions of Black composers.

We’re creating opportunities for musicians.

We’re building spaces where culture, education, and community can thrive together.

And that’s where Mood Magazine NYC enters the story.

Many people know Mood Magazine as a luxury lifestyle publication covering culture, food, travel, wellness, business, and life in Harlem and beyond.

But Mood Magazine was created for a larger purpose.

Its mission is to amplify the work of Harlem Collective Opera, Harlem Boys Choir, and Harlem Chamber Orchestra while also shining a spotlight on the businesses and advertising partners whose support makes our work possible.

Every article.

Every radio broadcast.

Every interview.

Every video.

Every issue of the magazine serves a larger mission.

To tell our stories.

To celebrate our communities.

To preserve our culture.

And to create opportunities for future generations.

The truth is that nonprofit organizations don’t survive on passion alone.

They survive because communities decide that their work matters.

Today, we’re asking our writers, musicians, pianists, volunteers, board members, supporters, readers, advertisers, and community partners to help us share this mission.

Not tomorrow.

Today.

Because every gift matters.

Every shared post matters.

Every conversation matters.

And every dollar plants a seed.

A seed that may become a voice lesson for a young singer.

A scholarship for a student.

A concert that introduces someone to classical music for the first time.

An educational program that inspires a future composer.

Or an opportunity for an artist who simply needs someone to believe in them.

Today is Giving Friday, and we’re inviting you to become part of the story.

Harlem Collective Opera is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and your contribution is tax-deductible as allowed by law.
