FASHION EMERGENCY: A NEW HARLEM STYLE REVOLUTION
By Jarvus Ricardo Hester, Editor-in-Chief, Mood Magazine
Welcome to Fashion Emergency — a bold, beautiful reclamation of style and identity rooted in the heart of Harlem. This is more than a runway event. It’s a fashion revival, a cultural reset, and a movement for sustainability, visibility, and Black creative power.
Launched in collaboration with local thrift stores, Harlem-based fashion designers, and Mood Magazine’s iconic street team, Fashion Emergency brings the community together in a quarterly showcase where secondhand fashion becomes high art — and where our homegrown designers are finally given the global spotlight they deserve.
Each quarter, our team of stylists, models, and production creatives will take over the Harlem Collective Theater to present four dynamic fashion shows, turning cast-off garments into reimagined masterpieces. More than just a fashion show, each event is a storytelling experience — an intersection of style, sustainability, and soul.
QUARTERLY THEMES INCLUDE:
Q1: “RECLAMATION” – A street-to-runway celebration of Harlem thrift and reworked classics.
Q2: “REBIRTH” – Featuring Afro-futurist and eco-conscious design from Harlem-based brands.
Q3: “REVIVAL” – A tribute to Black church fashion and Sunday best with a couture twist.
Q4: “RENAISSANCE” – A finale inspired by Paris Is Burning, ballroom culture, and Harlem’s legacy of glam.
But Fashion Emergency isn’t staying local — it’s going global.
Starting October 2025, the showcase will tour with the Harlem Boys Choir across HBCUs in the U.S., France, the U.K., and Senegal, echoing the legacy of historic shows like the Ebony Fashion Fair.

WHY IT MATTERS
This is a chance to:
- Elevate Harlem fashion brands
- Create sustainable pipelines for young stylists, models, and creatives
- Empower Black designers often shut out of traditional fashion circuits
- Redefine beauty through inclusivity, history, and Harlem-based storytelling
Our street team will walk the walk — literally — turning sidewalks into catwalks and casting calls into campaigns. Each participant becomes a part of a living movement.
Because in Harlem, fashion is more than a trend.
It’s our truth.
It’s our resistance.
It’s our renaissance.
Are you ready for the revival?
