Where Flavor, Wholeness, and Freedom Meet at the Table
In a city that never stops moving, cooking for one can feel like an afterthought. But in Harlem, where culture, creativity, and care are always on the menu, we’re flipping the script.
Single in the City: Life in the Kitchen is more than a cooking demo — it’s a healing space. Hosted in the café of our new Harlem Collective Theater, this LifeDay event series brings together the wisdom of plant-based eating, the comfort of soulful recipes, and the joy of doing it all for you.
Born from Single in the City, a cookbook and video series created by Jarvus Ricardo Hester during his 11-year tenure as Editor-in-Chief of Live Free Magazine, this new series gathers the best of what he learned from interviews with celebrity chefs across the country. The recipes are designed for one — flavorful, healing, and portioned for solo living without the guilt, waste, or overwhelm. Think lentils, beans, vegetables, and bold Harlem flavor made simple and nourishing.
But this isn’t just about cooking — it’s about reclaiming your relationship to food, to rhythm, to self-worth. We’re using food as medicine, as comfort, and as ritual.
Join us for live cooking events, tastings, conversations, and future guest chef appearances. It’s all happening inside the multifunctional café and demo kitchen at our new theater home — a space designed for lifestyle transformation.
Because cooking for yourself is not just self-care. It’s self-respect.
